LOCKESBURG – The Lockesburg City Council considered new lighting in the Ida Margaret Coulter Stone park and began planning for the city’s annual 4th of July celebration during its regular session last Tuesday.
There was a proposed 50/50 grant for new lighting for the ballfields at the park, but was tabled for the time being to allow for the opportunity to find a better grant.
Park Director Shelia Ruth addressed the Council regarding activities at the park. She stated that ballgames are scheduled for every Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month of May, and that there were teams using the fields to practice.
Ruth also stated that she had been in contact with Marlon Sharp about the event being held on July 4. A motion was made by Alderman Steven Hill to hire Sharp to perform at the event. The motion passed unanimously, 5-0.
The council also reviewed a bid from Air Magic for fireworks for the event , which would cost the city $3100. A motion was made by Alderman Matt Webb to approve the bid, and was seconded by Alderman Hill. The motion passed 5 to 0.
Mayor Danny Ruth explained that he had been approached about a drive through hamburger stand that would be set up in an existing building in town. The council granted its approval on the condition that no grease from the establishment would be placed into the sewer system.
The Council briefly reviewed the Water and Sewer Audits for the city of Lockesburg from 2014 and 2015. The audits were passed with no findings.
Present at the meeting were Alderman Steven Hill, Matt Webb, Claudine Tompkins, Bill Roberts, and James Jester. Mayor Danny Ruth, Recorder/Treasurer Becky Jegstrup, Deputy Municipal Clerk JoAnna Giusti, City Attorney Erin Hunter, and Park Director Shelia Ruth.
