James Morris Ross, age 83, of El Dorado, Ark., passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, in Little Rock, surrounded by his family. He was born on June 12, 1942 in Hope, the son of the late George Ross and Lena Friddle Ross.

After graduating from Nashville High School, James served in the United States Army as a clerk before returning home to work as a bookkeeper and tax preparer at George Castleberry Bookkeeping in Nashville, Ark. On June 4, 1965, he married Irene Brown Ross of Mineral Springs, Ark., and together they built a life and raised their family in El Dorado.

James spent his career with the United States Postal Service in El Dorado, where he worked as a mail carrier, window clerk, and in office management before retiring after 43 years of service.

Family was important to James. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and kept in regular contact with them. Whether in person or over the phone, he was always interested in what was going on in their lives.

James will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and veteran.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his infant son, James Michael Ross and his sister, Mary Emily Hughes, niece Belinda Hughes Lowe, and great niece, Katlyn Grace Key.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 61 years, Irene Brown Ross; his two children and their spouses, James Randal “Randy” Ross (Kristy) and Michele Ross Daugherty (Brian); two grandsons, Jackson Ross Daugherty and Cole Ryan Daugherty: his brother Kenneth Ross (Linda); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 202, at Sardis Cemetery at 10 a.m., with Bro. Bryan Bixler officiating. Services are under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
