Scrapper Coach Shawn Jackson has resigned, according to an announcement Monday morning, Nov. 18, from the Nashville School District.

Jackson was hired in December 2023. His final game was Friday night, Nov. 15.

The district released the following statement:

“The Nashville School District has received a letter of resignation from Coach Shawn Jackson, who will step down as head football coach of Nashville High School. Coach Jackson will remain with the district in a different capacity for the duration of his contract.

“We respect Coach Jackson’s decision, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

“The district is committed to ensuring a seamless transition and will work closely with the coaching staff to maintain the momentum and success of the Scrapper football program. A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.”

End of Season

The season ended for the Nashville Scrappers with a 28-13 loss to Pocahontas in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs Nov. 15 at Scrapper Stadium.

The Scrappers ended the season 6-5 overall, 5-2 in District 7-4A.

In Friday night’s game, the Scrappers “didn’t execute. It was a bad time for us to play one of our worst games of the year,” Coach Tyler Clift, defensive coordinator, said.

“They were more physical than we were,” Clift said of the Redskins. “We couldn’t get off the field. Our defensive deficiencies limited our offense in the first half.”

The Scrapper offense struggled in the first two quarters, turning the ball over twice and recording only 7 yards rushing the first half.

“When you can’t run the football, it’s hard to sustain drives,” Clift said. “We dug a hole early and couldn’t climb out of it. We played much cleaner in the second half, but the hole was already dug.”

Clift said he is “proud of how hard these kids worked. They played hard. The game didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to, but I’m proud of them.”

The future is “bright” for the Scrappers, according to Clift. “We’re excited for the kids we have returning. There will be eight starters back on defense.”
