Jondal Funderburg, age 50, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 7, in a Las Cruces, N.M., hospital.
He was born Feb. 16, 1973, in Hot Springs, Ark., to Gene Funderburg and the late Bobbie Joan (Stueart) Funderburg of Murfreesboro, Ark.
After graduating from Murfreesboro High School in 1991, he earned a BA at Ouachita Baptist University. He worked in many different settings including concrete construction, law enforcement, lumber grading, OSHA sawmill safety, and human resources. His calling and last occupation, however, was Christian pastoral ministry. Called by God in 2007 and ordained by the Assemblies of God in 2012, he ministered from 2008 to 2018 when declining health forced him into early retirement. The last five years of his life were spent with his wife and daughter in Santa Fe and Las Cruces, N.M.
In addition to his mother, Jon was preceded in death by a cousin, Teresa Sharp of Murfreesboro, Ark.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years to whom he was never unfaithful, Crystal Funderburg of Las Cruces; one daughter, Aubrey Funderburg of Las Cruces; one granddaughter, Lucy Jewel Trantham, and Lucy’s father Thomas Trantham III, of Las Cruces; his father and stepmother, Gene and Doreen Funderburg of Lowell, Ark.; a first cousin, Shawn Stueart Dale of Nashville, Ark.; a sister- and brother-in-law, Beth and Ricky Anderson of Murfreesboro, Ark.; and a host of extended family, friends, and Sigma Alpha Sigma college fraternity brothers.
His wishes were to be cremated under the direction of Getz Funeral Home, Las Cruces, N.M., with no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Cooper-Anthony Child Advocacy Center – Chloe’s Garden, 216 McCauley Court, Hot Springs AR 71913.
