Nashville employees recognized at annual Christmas lunch

NASHVILLE -The city of Nashville held their annual
Christmas lunch on Wednesday and recognized several
outstanding employees. Park Recreation Director Miles
Mitchell is retiring in February and received a plaque of appreciation.
He has worked for the park since 2004 and has
also volunteered in several areas.
Police Chief Dale Pierce gave a brief review of the year and
recognized Investigator Larry Marion as the department’s
employee of the year. Public Works Director Larry Dunaway
recognized the waste, water, distribution, and street departments
for a job well done this year. He said each department
made improvements this year and worked many hours following
the May tornado. Mayor Billy Ray Jones presented his
employee of the year award to Park Interim Director Wendy
Harris. The mayor said that two weeks after she took the
job, the tornado hit. Harris took on many other duties after
that, working with insurance companies and volunteers, to
get the park cleaned up. Jones says Harris did a fantastic
job and will strongly be considered for the director position.
Mayor Jones in his “year in review” stated that he thinks
the city of Nashville is in the best place it can be, going
forward. City employees continue to receive raises each
year and infrastructure improvements continue to be implemented.
Jones says major water and sewer improvements
are helping the city to grow. Each employee went above and
beyond their normal work to assist the city after the tornado.
The mayor hopes to undergo several street paving projects
in the coming years and says the city has been approved for
a $190,000 sidewalk project for 4th Street.
