The Mineral Springs School District and surrounding areas are in mourning this week after the death of a young member of the Mineral Springs Hornet family.

William E. Dixon III, 26, died Saturday, Aug. 15 after he crashed his side-by-side on Schaal Road around 4:55 a.m. in rural Howard County, according to the Arkansas State Police. A report filed by ASP Trooper Zane Butler stated Dixon was driving northbound on Schaal Road when his 2019 Can Am left the roadway and overturned multiple times.

Dixon, a 2018 graduate of Mineral Springs and a staff member, was described in a post by the school district “as an amazing colleague, son, family member, friend, mentor, coach and valued part of the Mineral Springs Hornet family. His impact on our students, staff and community will not be forgotten.”

Dixon is the son of Mineral Springs School Board president William Dixon II and Donna Dixon and was a member of the Northside Church of God in Christ in Mineral Springs.

“His presence, love and willingness to pour into the lives of other will be deeply missed by our church family and all who had the privilege of knowing him,” posted Rufus L. Robinson, pastor of the Northside church.

Mineral Springs school was not back in session Monday as part of the four-day week schedule, but school officials said the district’s plans to have counselors on campus this week to help with the needs of employees and students affected by the loss.
