A Howard Memorial Hospital veteran has retired.
Kim Howard was recognized Friday afternoon, July 31, after 45 years at HMH.
Friends and co-workers attended a retirement program in the hospital cafeteria.
CEO Stacy Harberson introduced Howard and recalled some of the highlights from his time at Howard Memorial.
He started at the hospital in 1981. “His employee number is 00435. There have been over 2,300 people hired since he started working at HMH,” Harberson said.
“For 45 years, Kim remained dedicated to this hospital and this community. What a legacy! Kim helped the hospital be successful and grew with it for 45 years.”
During that time, “Kim walked over 76,000 miles at the hospital,” according to Harberson. “Since 1995, he ran a little over 47,000 miles. Let that sink in.”
Howard recently had a
health scare during a race, Harberson said. “I did a little research and learned that one in 10 people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of a hospital survive, and brain damage begins in just four to six minutes. Kim, you’re a walking miracle. I’m blessed to know you.”
She thanked Howard “for your dedication to our hospital, your friends and co-workers, and our community.”
Afterward, several of those friends and co-workers shared their stories about the retiree.
