Shirley Ann Anthony, 88, of Murfreesboro, Ark., passed away on July 11, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and quiet strength that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Born in 1938 in Nashville, Ark., Shirley was the daughter of Kelsey and Verna Harper, who instilled in her the values of faith, kindness, and deep family loyalty. Throughout her life, Shirley carried those values with grace and lived them fully.
Shirley spent most of her adult life in Dallas, Texas, where she built lifelong friendships and became an active member of her community. She devoted many years to volunteer work and was a proud member — and past president — of the Lakewood Republican Women’s Club, a role she embraced with enthusiasm and commitment.
Thursday nights were reserved for one of her greatest joys: playing bingo at Lakewood Country Club with her friends. These evenings were filled with laughter, camaraderie, and the simple happiness of being surrounded by people she loved. Shirley also had a passion for travel and delighted in exploring the world with friends and family, collecting memories that brought her joy throughout her life.
Later in life, Shirley returned to Arkansas, where she spent her remaining years close to home and family. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Murfreesboro. She will be remembered most as a loving mom and Granny, roles she treasured above all else.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Kelsey and Verna Harper; her siblings Jean Oldner, Don Harper, and Caroline Oldner; her beloved children Karen Elmore and Gary Epton; her grandson Ron Elmore, Jr.; her stepdaughter Leslie Peterson; and her former husbands James Peterson and most recently Clarence Anthony of Murfreesboro.
She is survived by her daughters Betty Middleton, Jamie Mixon and husband Kevin, Pamela Dutra and husband Nelson, her stepson Russell Peterson; and her grandchildren Shawn Culpepper, Todd Elmore, Jennifer Lee, Amber Henderson, Julie White, Sarah Mixon, Katie Mixon, Justin Dutra, Lauren Eichman, and Jackie Conrad. She also leaves behind several great‑grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close.
A private family service will be held at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in Shirley’s honor.
Shirley’s life was defined by generosity, devotion, and a gentle spirit that touched everyone she met. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of her family and all who loved her.
A private interment will take place at Restland Memorial Park, located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75243.
