Howard Countians passed a proposed one-cent sales tax extension by a wide margin, Tuesday, in an issue that was part of the annual school election ballot.
The county’s count:
For ——— 720
Against — 324
The issue would continue an existing tax, and divide it per capita between the county’s four incorporated cities and the county, with identical 4.5% portions to be directed to Developing Howard County and Howard Memorial Hospital.
The election also featured school board races for Nashville and Dierks districts.
In Nashville, Anthony Whitmore was unopposed for Zone 5. For Zone 2, incumbent Tem Gunter outpolled DJ Hibberd 154-54.
For the at-large seat at Dierks, incumbent Jared Tipton outpolled Phillip Glasgow 270-247.
Incumbents were unopposed at Mineral Springs and at Blevins.
There will be a vacant seat at Mineral Springs to be filled by appointment. Incumbent Xavier Vaughn was unopposed for the other seat which came open.
At Blevins, incumbents Kimberly Cole, Zone 2, Cindy Parks, Zone 4, and James West, Zone 5, were unopposed.
