Betty Ann Floyd was born Nov. 28, 1935 in Nashville, Ark., the second child of the late Clyde (Kern) and Gertha Floyd. She passed away April 29, 2024, in Nashville, Ark., at the age of 88. Also preceding her in death was her beloved brother Sammy Floyd.

Betty Ann Floyd graduated from Nashville High School in 1953. She received her bachelor’s degree at Harding College in 1957. She moved to Florida to teach for one year before returning to Harding to complete a master’s degree. Betty Ann taught and coached in Lubbock and Liberty Eylau before returning to her alma mater to coach and teach in 1969. She coached both the Nashville Junior High and Senior High girls’ basketball teams. This was at the time when girls played 3 on 3 half court. Betty Ann coached the Junior High Scrapperettes for 8 years winning many tournaments and district championships.  She led the High School team for 10 years. She took the Scrapperettes to their first appearance in the state tournament in 1972. The following year the team made it to the championship game. The Scrapperettes didn’t go that far again until 2022. After she hung up her coaching whistle in 1979 she continued to teach history at Nashville High School until her retirement in 1994. 

Betty Ann was a member of Sunset Church of Christ.

Survivors include a host of cousins and friends.
