Velron Hunter Young, 87, a resident of Newhope, Ark. went to her heavenly home on Sept. 7, 2023, in Hope, Ark. 

Velron was born on July 3, 1936, to James and Gracie Hughes Murphy in Kolbtown, Ark. 

Velron was a Baptist by faith, a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an accomplished homemaker, chicken farmer, avid gardener and beautician by trade. Velron loved her family deeply and never missed any of her children or grandchildren’s activities before she was home bound by bad health. She loved to travel, attend church functions, play music and sew. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands QD Hunter, Don Alford and Paul Young; son Ricky Hunter; grandson Chip Ward; one brother William Sharp; sisters Rubie Rohrbaugh, and Robbie Carr. 

She is survived by: sons Ronald Hunter and wife Rhonda of Newhope and Randall Hunter of Newhope; daughter-in-law Darla Hunter of Athens; granddaughters Casey Bissell and husband Dustin of Newhope; Erin Hunter and husband Stephen Sprick of De Queen, and Tracy Stone and husband Stacey of Gurdon; one grandson Todd Hunter of Hazen; great-grandchildren: Presley and Levi Sprick, Blair and Wyatt Bissell, and Kaylie Stone; one sister Frances Jones of Texarkana, Ark.; and a host of Nieces and nephews. 

 Ms. Young’s funeral service will be Saturday September 9 at 10 a.m. with Raymond Dees and Kevin Jewell officiating at the Pleasant Grove Baptist church in Newhope. Family will receive friends beforehand at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at the Saline Cemetery in Athens under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home. 

The family would like to thank the staff and administrator of Heather Manor in Hope for the wonderful care they provided to our beloved mother and grandmother this past year. Your kindness and compassion is greatly appreciated.
