James (Jim) J. Hood, Jr. age 85 of Nashville, Ark., passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2023, in Bryant, Ark. Jim was born Oct. 14, 1937 in Maud, Okla., to the late James J. Hood, Sr. and Bernice Pope Hood.

Jim was known throughout Arkansas, especially in Southwest Arkansas for his involvement with youth and agriculture. He was a retired County Agent for Howard County where he had served numerous years. He had helped raise generations of local kids in 4-H and Agri in general. He was very involved in his community, he was a long-time member of the Arkansas Cattleman’s Assoc, having helped cook the beef for many years. He also was on the Howard County Fair Board for many years. He loved serving his community especially when it came to agriculture. For all of his hard work in 1986 he received the National Distinguished Service Award for County Agents, which was a huge honor for him. In 1994 at his retirement, he also received a Resolution from the University of Arkansas Cooperation Extension Service after serving for 31 years. Earlier in life Jim had served his country serving in Korea in the United States Army. In his spare time, you could catch him playing a round of golf or shooting a game of pool or later on walking in the park picking up rocks. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his grandkids. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nashville.

Preceding Jim in death were his parents, his son Jeff Hood and just a few months earlier the love of his life, his wife Elizabeth Ann Hood. Also, two sisters, Pat Jordan and Ann Shoemake.

His survivors include: his two children, Marti and husband Sid Steel of Bryant, Ark., and Jimmy and wife Candy Hood of Nashville. One sister, Margarie Donoho of Gutherie, Okla., two brothers, Jack Hood of Fort Smith, Ark., and Bob Hood of Yucon, Okla. Five grandchildren, Rusty and wife Claire Steel, Alex and wife Lauren Hood, Regan and husband Steven Wakefield, Braden Hood and Avery Hood. Six great-grandchildren, Jasmme Wakefield, Grayson Hood, Steel Wakefield, Sydney Steel, Jetty Steel, and Julia Hood. Numerous other family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Monday, March 20, 2023, at Nashville Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Kelley and Bro. Kevin Sartin officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
