Obituary: Thomas ‘Tom’ Day

Thomas “Tom” Day of Texarkana, Ark., passed away Jan. 28, 202, at Little River Nursing and Rehab facility in Ashdown, Ark. He was born Sept. 2, 1941, to Lee and Etter Day of Nashville, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Tom graduated from Nashville High School where he played football and he never lost the Scrapper Spirit. He started Tom Day Steel in 1972 and expanded to TDS Erectors, Inc in 1982. He served as a deacon at Ashdown Church of Christ and in later years was a member at Sunset Church of Christ in Nashville, Ark. He was a former board member of the Ashdown School System and was active in youth activities at the Ashdown Park and coached baseball for years.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Jean Day; three children, Steve Day and fiancé Jennifer Harrison, Stephanie and John Farmer and Sonya and Woody Corbell; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a treasured extended family and loyal friends.

Although Tom faced many health challenges he never gave up on living. He was always willing to help anyone in need and did not do it for recognition. A special thank you to the staff of Little River Nursing and Rehab for their loving care.

The family will receive friends from 9-10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at the Latimer Funeral Chapel in Nashville. Interment will follow in Avery’s Chapel Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville.
