Students at Caddo Hills Elementary learned that one of them may be the next Elon Musk after building and racing their own alternative fuel powered vehicles.
Morgan Baxley, 3rd and 4th grade science teacher at Caddo Hills, explained that her students recently discussed the dangers of global warming and the impact that the burning of fossil fuels has on the environment.
After discussing the causes and effects of global warming students had an opportunity to see what they might do to reduce the use of fossil fuels in an effort to curb global warming. Following the lead of electric car pioneer Elon Musk, students built their own alternative fuel powered vehicles.
All vehicles had to be powered by either water, air or solar power. All vehicles were built from scratch. After students built their vehicles they were tested and then raced against one another. The experience allowed students to stretch their creative muscles while learning about alternative fuel sources.
