Lions win Seventh Grade game, Junior Outlaws prevail


Mount Ida and Dierks split a pair of junior high matchups last Thursday with the Lions earning a 14-0 victory in seventh grade action and the Junior Outlaws emerging victorious by a score of 40-0.
The night started with the seventh graders taking the field.
Dierks started the game with a huge 66 yard run to the Lion four yard line. The Outlaw series ended abruptly on the next play when the Lions recovered a fumble on their six yard line.
Mount Ida marched 94 yards in 15 plays to score on a seven yard run by Baylor Bates.
The second half was a back and forth affair with Mount Ida scoring on a 28 yard pass from Blake Stipe to Bates. Landen Scrimshire ran the ball in for the two point conversion as time expired to give the Lions the 14-0 victory.
The Junior High game was all Dierks with the Junior Outlaws scoring two plays into their first series after forcing the Lions to punt on a fourth and four from the Outlaw 35.
Austin Alexander scored the touchdown for Dierks from 38 yards out with 4:55 to go in the first quarter. He then ran in for the two point conversion to give Dierks an eight point lead.
Dierks would score on the first play of the second quarter on a 22 yard pass to Andrew Heifner. Alexander’s two point conversion was good.
Dierks needed just four plays to add a third score to the board, this time on a 21 yard run by Jace Jackson. He added the conversion to give Dierks a 24-0 lead with 4:16 to go in the second quarter.
Dierks opened the second half with a five play drive that ended with a three yard touchdown run by Chandler Lowrey. Alexander’s conversion was good to increase their lead to 32 with 6:12 to go in the quarter.
Dierks would score one more time on a five yard run by Chandler Lowrey. He got the call on the two point conversion to cap off the 40 point victory.
