Spence and Charity Dedner Wesson welcomed Oscar as their fourth child on October 5, 1945 in Oak Grove “Humpers Neck” Arkansas.  Oscar joined Betty Jean, Jeffie Rene and Joann.  The family moved to Nashville and became adoptive parents to Charity’s sister, Katherene, children: Addie, Elsie, Julie Ann, Henry And Carolyn. Oscar attended and graduated from Childress High School in 1963. After working at Branding Iron and Joda’s Restaurant, he loyally joined the United States Army on September 19, 1967 and was stationed in Korea. On Sept 18, 1969, he was honorably discharged. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Korean Defense Service Medal.  When he returned to Nashville, he was a disabled Veteran. During this time he became a member of Dodson Street Church of Christ. On January 16, 1981, he married Betty Lu Harris and helped raise her five children; Horace, Elizabeth, Sherwood, Mazarine, Scelitta. When Oscar began to have health problems, he became a resident of Benson’s Nursing Home, the Nashville Nursing Center, the Horizon Assisted Living Facility in Hope Arkansas, and finally to the Mine Creek Healthcare Center. Oscar’s final days were spent with love and laughter from his family, church family and his many friends. Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, Spence and Charity Wesson; sisters, Joann Wesson and Jeffie Rene Ross; his adopted sister, Addie O’Bryant and Carolyn Williamson; also close friends Tobe and Rena Ross. Oscar leaves to cherish his memories his children, Horace Barron, Elizabeth Thurman, Sherwood Jones, Mazarine White, Scelitta Porter all of Nashville; his sister, Betty Jean Stewart Of McCaskill; his nephews and niece, Michael Hannah of Little Rock, Marsha ”Peanut”  (Larry) Leaks Of McCaskill, Steve (Justene) Ross, Andy Wesson-Walton, Jeff Turney all of Nashville; his aunt, Mae Lou Hendrix Of Lubbock, Texas; his many cousins, including his cousin who was like a sister, Peggy Scoggins-Evans; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his close friends, Travis Marshall, Carl ”Peter” Atkins and Fred Turney all of Nashville, Oliver Pugh Of West Memphis; and many friends at the nursing homes in Nashville, Hope and surrounding areas. Oscar’s life came to a close on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock at the age of 70. Visitation will be held 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., family hour 6:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Dodson Street Church of God Nashville, Arkansas.  Burial will be at Centerpoint Cemetery in Centerpoint.  Arrangements entrusted to Hicks Funeral Home, Inc.
