126 years ago: 1890
W.S. Mitchell, Mayor of Saratoga and candidate for State Senator two years ago on the Union Labor Ticket, also deputy constable of his township and ex-merchant, has skipped by the light of the moon for parts unknown. A little account of Wolf & Bro., of Little Rock was what frightened him off.
We would like to know by what authority Judge Neal appropriated $2,500 to build a jail. We did not know there was any money on hand that could be appropriated.

100 years ago: 1916
Isom Clark, carrier on Rural Free Delivery Route No. 2 Nashville, was painfully injured in a runaway on Main Street yesterday morning. His team began running in front of Planters Bank and Trust company, and the buggy was overturned in front of The Nashville News office. Mr. Clark being caught beneath the vehicle. His face and head were badly cut.
The runaway started when a single-tree broke, and the buggy tongue dropping down is what caused the buggy to be overturned. When the team left the vehicle, it was lying upside down, headed in the opposite direction from which the team was running.

66 years ago: 1950
Sheriff A. E. Hicks has reported that Deputy Sheriff Ambrose Chesshir broke up a whiskey still in the Clay community Wednesday morning, capturing one man, 51 gallons of illegal whiskey and destroying four barrels of mash.
The man captured gave his name as Earnest Pinkerton, about 38 of the Clay community. Another man who as yet is unidentified, escaped by running through the woods. The sheriff’s office is continuing the investigation.

An overflow record crowd jammed the Nashville High School cafeteria, Saturday night as outstanding citizenship was recognized at the annual banquet of the Chamber of Commerce.
Kenneth Wilson, vice-president of Nashville’s Coca-Cola Bottling Company succeeded pharmacist, David Pile as chamber president.
Citizenship awards included: Man of the year, Deward Sharp, president of the Ouachita Production Credit Association; Woman of the year, Dot Tyndall, founder and past president of the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; Past accomplishments Man, Ray Utley, who was vital in bringing early industry to Nashville; Past accomplishments, Woman, Grace Bennett, long active in civic affairs, including coordination of Bicentennial activities and poultry festivals.
