Chesley O. Nunley, age 92 of Nashville, Arkansas, passed away, Sunday, January 3, 2016 in Nashville. He was born February 22, 1923 in Logansport, Louisiana to the late Luther and Nellie Mae Hawthorne Nunley. He was retired from the United States Postal Service as a postmaster. Mr. Nunley was of the Catholic Faith. He had a distinguished career in the United States Army, retiring with over 20 years of service. He retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He had received numerous medals; the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, American Defense Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, 6 OS Bars, and an Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Laverne Nunley; a sister, Ruth Lofton; and two brothers, Earl Nunley and Marvin Nunley. His survivors include his wife, Pilar Nunley of Nashville; two sons, Chesley Nunley, Jr. of Killeen, Texas and Greg Nunley of Rogers; three daughters, Bonnie Sue Weaver of Dallas, Texas, Debbie K. Bain of Nashville, and Donna Jean Matthews of Hot Springs; one brother, Don Nunley of Tyler, Texas; one sister, Nedra Nunley of Longstreet, Louisiana; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends. Services will be Thursday January 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Nashville Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Restland Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday night from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. You may send the family an online sympathy message to www.nashvillefh.com.
