Mount Ida seventh graders shut out Murfreesboro 24-0

web mi vs murf 7th grade 6aMURFREESBORO – The Mount Ida Lions shut out the Murfreesboro Rattlers 26-0 in seventh grade action last Thursday.
The Lions carried the ball 24 times for a whopping 227 yards, four touchdowns and two 2 point conversions. Mount Ida’s defense held Murfreesboro to 39 yards of total offense with 15 yards coming in 11 carries. The Rattlers were 4-8 in the air for 24 yards and an interception.
Thomas Rowland recovered a fumble for the Lions and Braden Thomas was responsible for the interception.
Fisher Davis led the Lions with eight carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns, followed by Seth Standridge with eight carries for 42 yards, a touchdown and a 2 point conversion.
Austin Cooper had four carries for 69 yards, Hunter Davis had two carries for 14 yards and a score, while Thomas Rowland had a couple touches.
Murfreesboro started the game with the ball on their own 30 yard line, but was forced to punt. Mount Ida started on their own 40 yard line and methodically made their way 60 yards in nine plays to score on a six yard run by Standridge. With 8:29 left on the clock the Lions held a 6-0 lead.
web murf vs mi 7th grade 6Murfreesboro was able to get a first down on their next series, but the Lions forced a turnover on downs just over the midfield line. Mount Ida took over on their own 45 yard line. It looked as if Mount Ida would give the ball back to Murfreesboro with a fumble on the snap, but quarterback austin Cooper scooped it up and raced to the Rattler eight yard line before being brought down. Hunter Davis finished off the drive with an eight yard run with 2:05 left in the half to give the Lions a 12-0 lead.
Mount Ida started the second half with possession of the ball on their own 30. Two plays later Fisher Davis scored on a 67 yard run with less than a minute gone on the clock to give Mount Ida an 18-0 lead.
The final score came at the 3:37 mark when Fisher Davis scampered six yards for a score. Seth Standridge took the 2 point conversion in to account for the final points of the game.
