Mrs. Winnie Modean Jones Parker, of Glenwood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 4, 2015, at the age of 94.
Winnie wasParker obit born September 18, 1920, in Langley, the firstborn of parents Macy and Pearl Lawless Jones. She married Iva Parker in October 1942, and the couple had two children, Jean and Jo. She was well known for her hospitality, cooking skills, generosity, and lifelong self-sacrifice to help others. After losing her mother to a sudden illness, Winnie took over the task of raising her three younger brothers. After raising her two daughters, she was also instrumental in raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She joyfully served as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses throughout her life.
Winnie is survived by her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Shauna Lucas and John Prince, and granddaughters, Janna Lock and Vicki Rhodes, all of Hot Springs; her brother, Wayne Jones of Kirby; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; as well as her congregation and many extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Iva, her two daughters, Pearl Jean Parker Simmons and Jo Ellen Parker Lucas; two brothers, Noel Jones and Junior Jones, and two little sisters, Ruby and Jewel.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1433 Hwy 70W, Glenwood. All were welcome to attend and celebrate Winnie’s life.Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
