CENTER POINT – Ebenezer Camp Ground has started its 193rd annual camp meeting at the camp site just north of Center Point.
The camp meeting, which has been an annual occurrence since 1822, was kicked off with a service at 8 p.m. Friday evening, and continues on with 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. services through Thursday evening. An additional service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday.
The crowd at this year’s camp meeting is noted by several attendees as being larger than in recent years, with a large number of young people in attendance.
In addition to worship services, the attendees heard a musical performance from the Harmony Band, a local gospel group, Saturday evening, and will hear the youth singers of the Grace Point Mennonite Church Wednesday evening.
Services are conducted by Rev. Rusty Jones of Gurdon, and feature Rev. David Moore as evangelist, Carolyn Carter of Junction City as pianist and Morgan Lee as song leader, with Jeremy Carter of Magnolia serving as children’s minister.
Ebenezer was first located near Washington, but moved to its location near Center Point in 1837. The camp meeting has continued almost without interruption since.
