NASHVILLE – The need to consult with a structural engineer about the integrity of the Howard County Museum was a feature of the most recent meeting of the board of the Howard County Historical Society Tuesday afternoon.
The group heard reports from board president Freddie Horne about several issues he had dealt with in the past month, including the receipt of a grant for $20,000 through the Department of Arkansas Heritage. Horne mentioned that when inspectors from the department had come to look at the building, they had noted that the west wall of the structure was bowed – something that he had himself noted. He stated that the inspectors had suggested that a structural engineer be consulted soon.
Horne also updated the board on the upcoming car show which he is coordinating at the Nashville city park as a fundraiser for the historical society. The event is set for September 12.
The group also heard from Maura Bissell, the organization’s treasurer, who stated that she had compiled a list of the society’s 58 members that references their membership renewal date, and is also going to compile a list of donors to the organization. She further reported that the group currently has nearly nine thousand dollars in accounts in addition to the recently awarded grant, and is still anticipating $2,000 pledged by Elizabeth Overton and $100 from Grainger Co.
The group also discussed hosting the hospitality table at the Howard County Farmers’ Market at least once before the end of the season. They resolved to contact managers of the market to inquire about dates that they could participate.
Horne closed the meeting by noting that elections for the board would be upcoming soon, and set the next meeting for August 13.
