Newhope men die in separate accidents

Two Newhope residents were killed over the weekend in two separate wrecks, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Leroy C. Bogan, 83, died Saturday, June 6 in a two-vehicle wreck in Hempstead County. Steven J. Parker, 42, was killed the morning of Sunday, June 7 when he hit a bridge in Garland County.

The wreck that killed Bogan happened around 12 noon on Highway 278. Bogan failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the highway into the path of a Dodge truck. Bogan was later pronounced dead at a Hope hospital.

ASP Trooper Darren Henley’s preliminary report did not list who was driving the Dodge truck or whether any of the involved parties were wearing seat belts. Weather and road conditions were listed as clear and dry.

The Garland County wreck that killed Parker happened at 6:45 a.m. on Highway 227 south of Nomoe Road. Parker was driving a 1991 Pontiac south on Highway 227 when he left the roadway, struck a concrete bridge and overturned in a creek.

Parker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Garland County coroner’s office. ASP Cpl. Kevin Steed’s report did not note if Parker was wearing a seat belt. Weather and road conditions were listed as clear and dry.
