LOCKESBURG – A local man with ties to law enforcement was found dead in his home Thursday.
Brent Helms, 37, was reportedly discovered deceased in his bed at home by family members around 12:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
According to a source with the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department, cause of death has yet to be determined by the state crime lab, but no foul play is suspected. The incident is currently classified as an unexplained death.
Helms had been a part-time officer with the Dierks police for nearly five years, and previously had worked with both the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department and the Mineral Springs police.
“We’re all still pretty shocked about this,” said Dierks police chief Brian White, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, and we will miss him dearly.”
