Barnett mugCole mugHOPE – An investigation into the beating death of a Hope man last year has led to the arrest of a man and woman.

On July 2, 2014, Gary Tuberville, 57, was found beaten and unresponsive in his home by his daughter, Katy Hunt, just before 9 a.m., according to reports released at that time.
Though Hope police released statements to media that they were following multiple leads in the week after Tuberville’s death, no arrests were forthcoming in 2014.
Nearly eleven months later, on Thursday afternoon, Hope police arrested Lucas Wayne Barnett, 30, of Hope, on a charge of capital murder in connection with the case, according to a statement released by the department Friday. Barnett was reportedly taken into custody near the intersection of Main and 14th St.
In the same report, Hope police stated that they had also arrested Sharlee M. Cole, 21, of Hope, on charges of hindering apprehension or prosecution in relation to the homicide investigation.
Both are being held in the Hempstead County jail. Bond for Cole has been set at $500,000, while Barnett has been denied bail.
