wreck webThe body of a Mount Ida man and his 2002 Dodge Durango were recovered this evening from Lake Ouachita near a bridge on Highway 270 East near Denby Point.

The man was identified by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as William Edward “Pete” Davidson, Jr., 76, of Mount Ida.

Davidson had been reported missing Thursday and a Silver Alert was issued by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

He was last seen Wed., May 20, leaving the Assisted Living Center in Mount Ida around 9 a.m.

According to members of the  Joplin Volunteer Fire Department and Mount Ida/South Fork Volunteer Fire Department, a search was started along 270 East between Mount Ida and the Garland County Line Friday morning in search of Davidson. They stated that a pair of fire fighters spotted what they believed to be an area where a vehicle may have left the highway near the bridge. Joplin VFD was able to identify a vehicle in the water with use of sonar equipment according to those on the scene.

Officers involved in the recovery effort stated that evidence at the accident scene suggested that his vehicle left the road on the south side of the highway while traveling west on 270 East toward Mount Ida.

Members of the Mount Ida/South Fork VFD, Joplin VFD, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas State Police and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission aided in the recovery.
