scrapper starNASHVILLE – The Nashville Scrapperettes took advantage of an error to establish a strong early lead, which sealed their win over the Ashdown Lady Panthers Monday afternoon.

The game, played at Futrell Field at the Nashville city park, began with the Lady Panthers scoring one run in very steady and paced play, but the Scrapperettes were able to retaliate quickly. Brookelyen Cox, who had previously been walked to base, was able to run in on an error after Mattie Jamison shot a ground ball to the Panthers’ short stop. This put an obvious rattle in the Ashdown team, and the Scrapperettes were able to bring in Jamison and KeeKee Richardson on a fly to center field by Brittany Hilliard, then Hilliard herself ran in on a passed ball. That set the score at Nashville 4-1 at the end of the first.
The score held steady through the second, but Nashville was able to achieve two more runs in the third as Hilliard and Bailey Dougan were brought home on a fly ball to left from Kaylea Carver.

Ashdown made one more run in the fourth, and another in the fifth, bringing the score to Nashville 6-3, but the game was essentially decided by that point, and little further movement occurred as hard defense limited batters. The game ended with the score unchanged from the fifth, final score Nashville 6-3.
Anna Kesterson was credited with the win, who achieved an impressive 63 percent strikes on her 109 pitches despite only having a single strikeout for the game. Hilliard was the batter to watch in the game with two runs, one hit and two RBIs on two at bats.
The Scrapperettes next play at Mena against the Lady Bearcats Friday afternoon.
