outlawDIERKS – A second fast, high scoring game in a row saw the Dierks Lady Outlaws take a victory over the Lafayette County Lady Cougars Tuesday afternoon.

Play began with the Lady Cougars just missing scoring, but the Dierks team taking full advantage to establish a big lead in the first. Madison Burgess started it off for the Lady Outlaws by running in on a throw after being walked on base, then Melanie Kesterson knocked a line drive to left to bring in Emily Whisenhunt and Lillie Woodruff and stole home on a following play. Adrianna Walston also ran in on a ground out to short stop by Miranda Mack before the first inning ended, setting the score Dierks 5-0.
The second ran much as the first, with Lafayette County being locked down at the batter’s box and the Lady Outlaws scoring heavily. Their runs were started with Burgess again, in on a wild pitch, followed by Whisenhunt in on a line drive to center field by Woodruff, Woodruff home on a line drive to right from Kesterson, Kesterson running in on a throw, Walston in on a wild pitch, Mack scoring on a dropped third strike and Stephanie Stuart wrapping the inning up by running on a wild pitch.
Going into the third at Dierks 12-0, the Lady Cougars made a push but only managed a single run. The Dierks team retaliated with Walston knocking a line drive to right to bring in Kesterson and then coming home herself on a throw.
The fourth was where it was set, with Lafayette County again failing to score and the Lady Outlaws achieving with Burgess coming in on a passed ball and Walston swatting Woodruff home on a grounder to left which triggered the 15-run rule and ended the game. Final score Dierks 16-1.
Alexis Simmons was credited the win with her performance at the mound, only allowing three hits and averaging a strikeout per inning, while Kesterson was the hot bat for the team with three hits, three runs and three RBIs in three at bats.
The Lady Outlaws next play at Murfreesboro against the Lady Rattlers Friday afternoon.
