Billy G. Ashley, age 78, of Glenwood, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015.

He was born on May 8, 1936, in Amity, the son of Ben Ashley and Janet Gaines Goff Ashley.  On December 24, 1959, he was married to the love of his life, Gearldine Spears.  He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Albert “Buck” Ashley; and one sister, Rosemary Hunnicutt.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a member of the First Baptist Church of Glenwood, and worked many long days farming and raising cows.  For several years he was the parts manager at Wisner Chevrolet and later for Jordan Oldsmobile-Buick-GMC Trucks.   He enjoyed hunting, was an avid outdoorsman, and most enjoyable times were when he and Gearldine were fishing together.  He always had so much love for his family and those who truly know Billy and Gearldine know there are many who “adopted them” as their own grandparents.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gearldine Ashley of Glenwood; his adopted son, Jimmy Robertson and his wife, Sharron, of Glenwood; four grandchildren, Nick Robertson, Tanna Ashley, Tabitha Ashley and Andrew Ashley; one brother, Royce Ashley of Glenwood; one sister, Carolyn Short of Booneville, California; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cordelia and John Pennington of Crossett; several nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 29, 2015, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Kody Prothro officiating.

Visitation will be held Sunday, 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Jones Cemetery in Amity under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers will be James Clyde Bardwell, Ronnie Ashley, Larry Mitchell, Mike Prince, Bill West and Troy Buck.
