Court was not in session Saturday afternoon, Oct. 10, but there was plenty of activity at the Howard County Courthouse.
Judge Bryan Chesshir conducted a swearing-in ceremony in the courtroom for new attorney Alyssa Rather, an event which he said allows her “to be licensed to practice law in Arkansas.”
Rather placed her hand on a Bible held by her mom, Julie Chesshir, as the judge asked her to repeat the attorney’s oath.
A number of family members were on hand for the milestone.
Rather is a 2018 honor graduate of Nashville High School.
She received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Central Arkansas in 2021.
Rather earned her Master of Business Administration degree and her Juris Doctor (summa cum laude) from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2026.
Internships during law school included Rose Law Firm, Kutak Rock, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Mountaire Corporation and The Walt Disney Company.
She is currently working as a trademark and advertising attorney at Haynes Boone in Dallas.
Rather thanked “all the educators and community members for pouring into me and for making me the person I am today. I am proud to call Nashville my hometown and will always consider myself a Scrapper.”
