Jacque Peeler Treese, beloved mother, grandmother, educator, and lifelong advocate for learning, passed away on March 23, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born on May 5, 1939, in Mena, Ark.

Jacque is survived by her two sons: George Winfield (“Win”) Treese and his wife Marie, and Robert Michael Treese and his wife Dawn. She is also lovingly remembered by her five grandchildren: Erica, Nina, Julia, Jarred, and Jason.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George William Treese; her father, Robert Bryant (“Jack”) Peeler; her mother, Ova Demorest Peeler; her brother, Robert (“Bob”) Peeler; and her sister, Wanda Gail Peeler.

A passionate educator and tireless advocate for public education, Jacque devoted 28 years to the Caddo Parish School Board. She served as a mathematics teacher at Green Oaks High School and C.E. Byrd High School, and later as Assistant Principal at C.E. Byrd.

Jacque played a pivotal role in shaping the future of C.E. Byrd High School  by being a founding member of its Math/Science Magnet Program — an initiative that not only expanded educational opportunities for students but also helped prevent the school’s closure. Her leadership and vision left a lasting legacy that continues to benefit the community today.

Throughout her distinguished career, Jacque received numerous accolades in recognition of her excellence and dedication. These included the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching (1983), The Shreveport Times Educator of the Year (1984), and the Louisiana Educator of Distinction award (1988). In 2009, she was inducted into the C.E. Byrd High School Hall of Fame.

In addition to her work in education, Jacque had a lifelong passion for reading. Her love of books enriched her life and brought her many hours of joy.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11 from 5-7 p.m. at Osborn Funeral Home in Shreveport, La. A small graveside service will follow on Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jacque’s memory may be made to the C.E. Byrd High School Alumni Association at https://byrdhighalumni.org/treese/.

Jacque’s legacy lives on in the countless students she taught, mentored, and encouraged — and in the deep and enduring love of her family.
