John Hill, left, of Dierks is Howard County’s new Veterans Service Officer succeeding Milton Puryear, who has retired after more than 12 years assisting veterans and their families. Hill spent more than three decades in military service, wearing uniforms of the Army, Army Reserve and Air Force Reserve. Puryear is a veteran of the Arkansas Army National Guard. The veterans service office shares a building on the old Howard Memorial Hospital campus with the Emergency Service Coordinator.
