Junior Lawrence “Deer Slayer” Stokes, age 74, a resident of Dierks, Ark., died Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.

Junior was born Sept. 10, 1948 in Dierks, Ark. He proudly served his country and was a Vietnam Veteran. Junior enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, Outlaw sports, Razorbacks and he loved his family.

Junior was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Mabel Brummett Stokes; two sisters, Athlene Short, Lavonne Thompson; two brothers, Billy Stokes, Emmett Stokes.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cheryl Stokes; four daughters and a son-in-law, Rhonda Darling of Midwest City, Okla., Nancy Villamil of Dierks, Catrina and Alan Parson of Nashville, Paige Stokes of Dierks, one son and a daughter-in-law Timmy and Cristy Stokes of Dierks; 8 grandchildren, Morgan, Bethaney, Allison, Charles, Kenzie, Danielle, Aaron, Andrew; 18 great-grandchildren, RJ, Andrea, Peyton, Madison, Giovanni, Ivy, Jair, Joselyn, Carter, Della, Logan, Kaden, Braylen, Hazelee, Benny, Stevie, Ethan Lawrence, Eli; one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Dorothy Stokes of Dierks; one sister, Christine Minx and special friend Jimmy of Lockesburg and a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 31, 2023, in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks with Glen Launius, Brian Pounds and Chuck Reel officiating. Burial will follow in Fellowship Cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

Family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Dierks.
