Mrs. Della Mae Young Spears, age 75, a resident of De Queen, Ark., passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at the Arkansas Heart Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Della was born the second of four daughters to the union of Herbert Cecil and Dorthy Inez Cupples Young on Aug. 24, 1947, in Pike County, Ark. Della worked different capacities over the years including two years as a USDA Inspector for Tyson Foods and as Human Resources Supervisor at Pilgrim’s Pride in De Queen. Della retired in February of 2021, having served more than 40 years with Pilgrim’s. She married the love of her life, Paul Wilson Spears, on June 2, 1984, in De Queen. Together they purchased Ayers Cleaners in 1986, faithfully fulfilling the laundry and cleaning needs of De Queen and surrounding communities for the next 36 years. Della was a member of Kern Heights Baptist Church in De Queen, and a former member of the Arkansas and Sevier County Cattleman’s Associations. She and Paul were faithful sponsors of Toys for Tots, Coats for Kids, and number of softball teams over the years. She enjoyed camping with Paul and their grandchildren, attending garage and estate sales, traveling, going to First Monday in Canton, Texas, tending to her flowerbeds, and was proud member of the August Birthday Club. Della cherished the time spent with her loving family and many friends. To know Della was to love her. She will be forever remembered as a loving and devoted Momma, Mamaw, sister, and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of over 38 years, Paul Spears; one son, Tim King; and two sisters, Glenda Sue McCoy, and Connie Kesterson.

Della leaves to cherish her memory: one son and two daughters-in-law, Brian and Kim King of Hooks, Texas, and Bonnie King of De Queen; two step-children, Johnny Spears of De Queen, and Stacey and Mark Heath of Foreman; eight grandchildren, Justin King of Little Rock, Kirstin King of Indiana, Matthew King of Lockesburg, Kelsie (Zack) Taylor of Waldron, Breanna King of Ashdown, Megan (Daniel) Gilbert of De Queen, Brent Heath of Tom, and Blake Heath of Foreman; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister and three brothers-in-law, Bonnie and Glynn Willis of Horatio, Mike McCoy of Nashville, and Doyce Kesterson of Nashville; as well as the many past and present employees of Ayers Cleaners, a number of special nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
