Southwest Arkansas Beekeepers Association (SWABKA) will holding its first public meeting of the year Monday evening, Feb. 13, and anyone interested in learning about beekeeping is invited to attend.
To kick off the new year, guest speaker Dr. Jon Zawislak will be presenting “The Mystery and Management of Laying Workers” at Hempstead Hall in Hope.
Dr. Zawislak is the apiary specialist for the UofA Division of Agriculture Research and Extension and is well known throughout the state for his expertise on honey bees.
The presentation will begin at 6:00 pm in the Fulton Suite at Hempstead Hall.
There will be information at the meeting about how to get into beekeeping and about free classes and workshops scheduled for 2023.
Following the presentation, there will be a discussion on what individuals should be doing right now if they plan to have bees this year and what existing beekeepers need to be doing now to get ready for this spring.
Refreshments and bottled water will be served and anyone who wishes to do so may bring their own sack meal, snacks or drinks.
