Waunita Mary Poole of Nashville, Ark., died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at the age of 92.
She was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Fairmont City, Ill., to the late Grover Cleveland Huffman and Nancy Johnson Huffman.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Merry Elaine Sheer, and is survived by a son, Richard Poole of Nashville, Ark., grandsons Matthew Hannon and Morris Hannon, both of Illinois, granddaughter Michelle Brooks of Tennessee, as well as great-grandchildren Zachary, Lexie, Erin, Dillon, Cory, Gabriel and Heather; her great-great-grandchildren Zoey, Layla and Bella.
She endured the difficulties associated with being a single other of two at age 20, and had a successful career as bookkeeper and auditor for various companies in the St. Louis area. In addition, she attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill., where she was a member of the National Business Honor Society, Alpha Beta Gamma. Her education, interrupted by work and family responsibilities, was resumed later in life at the University of Texas in Austin where she participated in Phi Theta Kappa and Phi Beta Chi organizations.
In 2015 she moved to Nashville, Ark., to be closer to family. She was a fun-loving person with a ready wit and engaging personality. Throughout her life she was actively involved in square-dancing competitions at the regional and national level.
No public memorial services will be held.
