Mr. Royce Gene Steed, age 72, a resident of Mineral Springs, Ark., died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023 at Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana.
He was born June 28, 1950, in Bodcaw, Ark. Royce retired from the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Electrician Senior Chief. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Mineral Springs. He loved all his family but especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to talk to people and really enjoyed teaching and telling stories about the Navy.
Mr. Steed was preceded in death by his parents, A.O. and Clara Harrison Steed and a daughter-in-law, Wanetta Steed.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judy K. Steed; one daughter, Deana J. Steed of Mineral Springs; one son, Christopher Steed of Marshall, Texas; grandsons, Garrett Lanicek (Tabitha) of Glenwood, Ark., and Royce Gene Lanicek of Mineral Springs; three great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard Steed of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Ronnie and Joan Steed of Texarkana, Texas, Randy Steed of Nash, Texas, Robert and Martha Steed of Longview, Texas; his extended family, Donald and Cathy Ballard, JoAnn and Chuck Martin, Carol and Jim Stockman, Pam and Wayne Warden and a very special family that was loved by Pop’s and his special dog Lil Bit and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Steed will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, Jan. 9, 2023 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Mineral Springs with Dallas Kesterson and Paul Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Coulter Memorial Garden in Lockesburg, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
