Verna Dell Hughes Hockaday, 83, of Nashville died Monday, Oct. 31, 2022, in Nashville. She was born to the late Elmer C. Hughes and Hazel Graves on Sept. 27, 1939, in Dierks.
She was the founder and owner of Stepping Stones Day Care for more than 27 years. She had been a member of the Nashville Rotary Club had been a volunteer in the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nashville, where she also served on many boards throughout the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Bert Hockaday, her stepmother, Wilma Hughes, and siblings Marvin Graves, Bobby Hughes, and Maudeen Hughes.
Survivors include: her children, Jim Bob Hockaday and wife, Sherri, of Nashville, and Mandy Willis, also of Nashville; a sister, Carolyn Howard of Paducah, Ky., and Junior Hughes of Nashville; also grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022, at 2 p.m. in Restland Cemetery in Nashville with Bobby Rosson officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 12-1:30 at Nashville Funeral Home prior to the service.
