After a year of absence due to Covid, Nashville’s annual Christmas Parade will make its return with some changes Friday, Dec. 3.

Chamber of commerce executive director Mike Reese talked about the upcoming Christmas season in Nashville, including the parade changes.

In recent years the parade formed and followed a south-to-north route from the parking lot of the SouthPark Shopping Center. This year, however, the parade will form at the high school parking lot and will travel a north-to-south route.

The parade will start moving at 4:30, he said. The parade will disband at the Cash Saver parking lot.

Reese said that there would be yet-undetermined prizes for the parade floats.

Nashville’s big downtown refurbished Christmas tree will take up a new location north on Main Street and will be put up in the intersection of Main and College Streets. Nashville students in grades K-3 will make ornaments for the tree.

Smaller trees will be attached to downtown street lights, and are available for seasonal purchase for $35. They will be available by Nov. 26. Reese said that purchasers should have decorated their trees by the date of the Christmas parade. Electricity is free for lights on the trees.

There are 56 light poles available and there are 42 new trees. Parts of the old small trees will be used in the refurbishing of the large tree.

Another new feature of the 2021 Christmas parade is that both junior high and senior high bands will march and perform. The theme for the parade, Reese said, is “Bring Back the Hometown Feeling.”

Reese made his remarks last Wednesday at the weekly meeting of the Nashville Rotary Club.

The club voted to once again serve hot chocolate on Main Street before the parade.
