Gladys Jane Welch McIntyre Suttles, age 80, of Kirby, passed away on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at the Garland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs.
She was born on August 6, 1937, in Murfreesboro, Pike County, the daughter of Ollie Hester Welch and Alma Killian Welch. She grew up in Kirby with her two brothers, Leonard and Dennis; and
her three sisters, Annie, Denver and Joy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings, including her sister, Joy, who passed in June of this year; her two husbands, Cliff McIntyre and Jim Suttles; and two sons, Craig Andrew McIntyre and Michael Timothy McIntyre.
Gladys graduated from Kirby High School in 1955, and went on to be licensed as an LPN, working at St. Michael’s Hospital in Texarkana and at Pike County Hospital in Murfreesboro. She spent the last years of her nursing career in home health services in the Kirby area. She was an active member of the Kirby Church of Christ with her many friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn E. McIntyre and her spouse, Treese, of Sachse, Texas; two sons, Patrick K. McIntyre and his spouse, Jackie, Hot Springs and James O. Suttles and his spouse, Sonya, of Wylie, Texas; her granddaughter, Michelle, and her great-granddaughter, Siona Ivey; her grandsons, Brian, Andrew and David; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends.
Services were held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 3, 2017, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Billy Golden and James “Pete” Pedron officiating.
Visitation was Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home.
Interment was in the Palestine Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Patrick McIntyre, James Suttles, Brian McIntyre, Jonathan McIntyre, Charles White and Howard White.
