If you arrived less than 90 seconds into the Nashville Junior Scrappers’ season opener against Magnolia, you missed the first three touchdowns in a 35-0 rout of the Junior Panthers.
Nashville scored at the 7:38, 7:26 and 6:42 marks of the first quarter at Scrapper Stadium and put up the final two touchdowns of the night in the second quarter.
The Scrappers extended their winning streak to 57 games going back to the last two games of the 2010 season.
Ty Gordon opened the scoring on a 60-yard run. Ronald Pineda kicked the first of five PATs to put Nashville ahead 7-0.
Twelve seconds later, Keyshawn Stewart scored on a 14-yard run following a Magnolia turnover.
Gordon ran the ball in from the 3 for Nashville’s third TD.
Stewart scored again with 7:11 left in the second quarter, this time on a 42-yard pass from Gordon. The last score of the night came with 37 seconds left before halftime when Stewart carried the ball 4 yards for a touchdown.
Gordon completed 5 of 9 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown against Magnolia. Stewart completed his only pass of the night for 4 yards.
Gordon was the leading rusher with 6 carries for 144 yards and 2 TDs. Stewart had 6 carries for 52 yards and 2 touchdowns. Quincey Garland ran the ball 11 times for 39 yards.
Austin Hanson caught 2 passes for 20 yards. Stewart had 1 reception for 42 yards and a TD. Will Pope, Caiden Erwin and Desmond Bailey had 1 catch each for 7, 9 and 4 yards, respectively.
The Scrappers produced 317 yards total offense, including 235 passing and 82 rushing.
They held Magnolia to 126 yards rushing and none passing.
Eighth grade
The eighth grade Scrappers defeated Magnolia 16-14.
Aiden Chapman scored on a 34-yard pass from Ethan Gunter with 4:40 left in the first quarter. Chanler Chapman ran for the 2-point conversion.
AIden Chapman scored again with 4:38 left in the game on a 63-yard run. He ran the ball for the 2-point conversion.
Gunter completed 3 of 4 passes for 49 yards and a touchdown. He also ran the ball 5 times for 21 yards.
Alden Chapman had 6 carries for 94 yards and a TD. He also caught 2 passes for 43 yards and a touchdown. Chanler Chapman had 7 rushes for 38 yards.
Garrett Willard had 1 reception for 6 yards.
The Scrappers had 153 yards rushing, 49 passing for a total of 202.
Magnolia had 126 yards rushing, 68 passing for 194 total yards.
Nashville will play at Hope Thursday, Sept. 14, with the eighth grade to begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the junior high game at 7 p.m.
