The Dierks Outlaws dropped to 0-2 Friday night after a 43-8 loss to the 3-A Gurdon Go-Devils.
The Outlaws will stay on the road Friday night with a trip to Fouke to take on the 2-0 Panthers of 3-A. The Panthers have posted wins over Mineral Springs (40-34) and Hermitage (78-0). The Outlaws are scheduled to return to Ayers Field Sept. 22 against Mountain Pine.
Dierks’ offense continued to have trouble producing yards against the Go-Devil defense. The Outlaws collected a total of 119 yards with only three yards coming from 1/3 passes and 116 yards on the ground. The team’s scoring was limited to the eight points in the first quarter.
Jarett Fox led the Outlaw’s ground game with 17 carries for 83 yards followed by Brayden Kirby with 13 carries for 35 yards and a 10-yard touchdown run, capped by a two-point run by quarterback Colt Kuykendall. Chandler Lowery picked up seven yards on two carries.
Gurdon’s quick offense produced 341 yards, split between 157 in the air with one TD and 184 on the ground with four TDs. Go-Devil runner Antonio Dickens led the way with 19 carries for 121 yards and two touchdowns followed by QB Gavin Deaton with 11 carries for 68 yards and two touchdowns.
Dierks scaled back on the penalties this week and were flagged only five times for 30 yards while Gurdon was flagged five times for 80 yards. Dierks lost 1/1 of fumbles. Gurdon turned the ball over on one interception, which was pulled in by Blayn Turner.
Outlaw QB Kuykendall failed to hit his two pass attempts and was intercepted by the Gurdon defense, which was later turned into points. Back-up QB Grant Strasner threw the Outlaws’ only pass reception.
