John Horace Egleston, born July 31, 1921 to James Horace Egleston and Ethel Mae Philpot in Bayou Meta, Arkansas, passed away September 1, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 69 years, Winifred Egleston, brothers, Jake, Bill, Jack and Charlie Egleston, sisters, Irma Egleston and Irene McCoy.

John is survived by three children and their spouses, Johnette and Doyle Rowland of Sims, Randy and Jay Egleston of Mount Ida and Gary and Gina Egleston of Jessieville, one brother Pat and Mary Ellen Egleston of Royal, and one sister-in-law, Brooks and Ray Carpenter of North Ridgeville, Ohio. Grandchildren include: Shane Stovall, Stacy Landers, Chase Egleston, Shannon Rowland, Jennifer Walden, Jessica Barnett, and Courtney Wieler, great- grandchildren, Shawna Stovall, Drake Stovall, Bailee Landers, Whitley Egleston, Axton Egleston, Molly Rackley, Lauren Rowland, Kara Rowland, TJ Walden, Ty Walden, Mattie Walden, Heather Barton, Leah Barton and Tomi Barton, and great- great grandchild, Cloe White.

After serving his country in the South Pacific during World War II, John returned home to work in the timber industry, being one to assist in clearing trees that helped create Lake Ouachita in the early 1950’s. He could tell stories of where all the families lived, how many children they had and how big their livestock herd or how many bushels of produce was raised by each during The Great Depression. He was raised on the values of God, Country and Family, to this he added love respect, honesty and integrity. He did his best to make sure each of his children was raised with these same values. When someone in the community takes the time to tell us of a good deed or accomplishment, even just a kind word daddy said to someone, it gives all 5 generations another goal to achieve, because we want to grow up to be just like you, Dad.
