Jeanette “Aunt” Sickafus, age 84, peacefully passed away March 9, 2017 at her home in Oden, Ar. She was born November 6, 1932 in Tampa, Florida to Henry Charlotte and Cynthia Lucille Laird. Jeanette was the beloved wife and best friend of her one and only love, Ervin Sickafus, for 50 years.
Jeanette graduated from Hillsborough High School, Tampa, FL in 1950. She then worked as a secretary for many years. She was a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. She loved spending her spare time with her family and was known for opening her house to her nieces and nephews. She was an avid animal lover, but had a special love for her horses.
Jeanette is survived by her husband Ervin Sickafus of Oden, AR; sister: Nancy Hammon of Oden, AR many nieces and nephews and a host of other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Robert Wesley Laird of Tampa, FL and Harry Brooks Laird of Oden, AR.
A celebration of Jeanette’s life will be held Wednesday March 15, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Hogjaw with Brother Kyle Cowart and Brother Arlie Francis officiating. Interment will follow in Brushy Baptist Church Cemetery in Oden.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Wheeler, Shawn Wheeler, Marcus Collins, Cole Perkins, Patrick Fair and J.D. Fair. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Wheeler, Freddie Fair, members of the Missionary Baptist Church and Ouachita Hospice.
Arrangements were made under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home of Mount Ida, AR.
