Obituary: Sonny Kirkley; Murfreesboro


Sonny Kirkley, 82, of Murfreesboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 in Nashville.

He was born Aug. 3, 1934 in Nacogdoches, Texas, to the late Jessie Kirkley and Ruby Bailey Kirkley. He was retired from Poulan Weed Eater in Nashville.

He was a deacon at Harvest Time Assembly of God Church in Murfreesboro, served on the Murfreesboro City Council, and for 17 years was the Executive Director of the Pike County Housing Authority.

He was preceded in death by six sisters: Edna, Dorothy, Hazel, Pauline, Ruth and Addie Jo; and a brother; Troy.

Survivors include: his wife of more than 35 years, Sandy Kirkley of Murfreesboro; four children, James, Kenneth, Linda and Edith Creel; a sister, Iva Louise Shaw, of Dumas; a brother, Chester Kirkley, of Timpson, Texas.

Services were Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Harvest Time Assembly of God Church in Murfreesboro with Bro. Jerry Shinn and Bro. Jon Funderburg officiating.

Burial followed in Restland Memorial Park in Nashville under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home. Visitation was on Friday morning at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.
