Sonny Tolleson, age 83, of Kirby, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016.

He was born on June 4, 1933 at Kirby, the son of Roy Martin Tolleson and Letha Gurnsey Tolleson. On May 24, 1957, he was married to Bernice Lindsey Tolleson who preceded him in death on February 14, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Joyce Tolleson and Alton Tolleson.

He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. An ordained Missionary Baptist minister, he pastored Salem-Clark, Eden, Alamo, Alpine and Mount Olive Missionary Baptist churches. He was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He was retired from the Arkansas Highway Department and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and playing with his grandchildren.

He is survived by three children and their spouses, Lynn and Jill Tolleson of Kirby, Cynthia and Jim Garrett of Kirby and Lori and Wes Johns of Amity; eight grandchildren, Lynsey Tolleson, Grady Tolleson, James Wright and his wife, Kallie, Mark Johns, Ethan Johns, Emily Johns, Nicole Simmons and Noel Bailey; two great-grandchildren, Jace Wright and Lane Bailey; his sister and brother-in-law, Maurice and Bobby Golden of Kirby; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 13, 2016, in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Jack Herring and Bro. Melvin Markham oficiating.
Interment followed in the Salem Cemetery under the direction of Davis- Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers were Jim Garrett, Wes Johns, Ronnie Whisenhunt, David Whisenhunt, Lee Whisenhunt and Mike Funderburk.

Honorary pallbearers included Gerald Grant, Ed Carthan, Ray Cook, Keith Duren, Billy Jewel Cogburn and Bobby Golden.
