Mount Ida Lion football has stepped center stage with an appearance on state wide television and a spot in the Arkansas Blue Cross Kickoff Classic, Monday, August 29.
The Mount Ida Lions will be featured on KATV Channel 7 August 15 as part of the “31 teams in 31 days” series. The feature will air at 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield will bring their sponsorship to the Classic to Mount Ida as Arkansas Blue Cross employee volunteers will work together with the football teams to pack 10,000 meals for the local food pantry. The event will take place August 16.
A pep rally will follow at 6 p.m. at the football field. Everyone is encouraged to come support the Lions as they prepare to kick off the 2016 football season. Attendees are asked to bring body soap (no bar soap please), shampoo, towels, or heavy duty laundry detergent for admission.
The Arkansas Blue Cross Kickoff Classic games begin Monday, Aug. 29 at Ouachita Baptist University’s Cliff Harris Stadium in Arkadelphia. Texas private school power Dallas Episcopal (11-2 in 2015) plays 2015 Class 5A runner-up Little Rock McClellan at 5:30 p.m., followed immediately by Class 3A Centerpoint against Class 2A Mount Ida.
Centerpoint won eight games last season, and the Knights expect to compete for the 5-3A title this fall. Defending 7-2A champ Mount Ida won 12 games last season, losing in the state semifinals to Class 2A champion McCrory.
The Arkansas Blue Cross Kickoff Classic continues Tuesday, Aug. 30 at UAPB’s Golden Lion Stadium in Pine Bluff with Class 2A preseason No. 1 England playing Class 4A Hamburg, followed by defending Class 2A champion McCrory against Class 6A Sheridan.
Tickets for Mount Ida’s match up with Centerpoint are on sale at Bates Sales and Service in Mount Ida. Proceeds from tickets sold in Mount Ida will be shared with the school.
