Newspaper and Hair retryHelen R. Ellis, age 86, of Hot Springs, died Sunday, July 24, 2016.

She was born Sept. 18, 1929 in Bingen, the daughter of Jessie Ray Young and Alma Norris Davis Young. On June 26, 1948, she married James “Jim” Ellis, who preceded her in death on April 30, 1988. She is also preceded in death by her parents; her brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Martha Young; and her son-in-law, Ricky Short.

Helen was a member of First Baptist Church and worked for 52 years as a bookkeeper with Firestone Tire Company in Hot Springs.

She is survived by two daughters, Julia Ellis Short and Camelia Ellis (Owen) Carpenter; four grandchildren, Anna Short, Laura Short, Tyler Carpenter and Kayla R. (Michael) Ashley; two great-grandchildren, Briar Lee Carpenter and Beau Michael Ashley, all of Hot Springs; special niece and nephew, Jeffery H. Young and Christina Ray Young, both of Orlando, Fla.; numerous other nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Rev. Mike Pounders officiating.

Interment will be in the Restland Memorial Park, Nashville.

Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Pallbearers will be Owen Carpenter, Tyler Carpenter, Michael Ashley, Nick Dobbs, Andrew Godwin and Chris Cusick.

Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Quapaw Nursing and Rehabilitation and the employees of Hot Springs Firestone.
