Vernon Lee Collins, Sr.

new doc 1_2On July 9, 2016, Almighty God took Vernon Lee Collins, Sr., home. He was born in Howard County, Ark., May 8, 1942.

He was the son of the late Carrie Hawthorne Collins and William Walter Collins.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda Jean Webb Collins, of Cabot, Ark.; three children, Tracey Jean Collins Cooley, and husband, Lyle,y, of Mineral Springs, Ark., Rebecca Lynn Collins Clark, and husband, Scott, of Knoxville, Tenn., andVernon Lee Collins, Jr., of Cabot, Ark.; four grandchildren, Aaron Matthew Cooley, Jennifer Nicole Cooley, Logan Andrew Collins, and Clayton Allen Collins; two brothers, William Lloyd Collins, and wife, Mary, of Haughton, La., and Ronald Earle “Red” Collins, and wife, Sharon, of Nashville, Ark.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Mr. Collins was a retired mathematics teacher. He enjoyed being able to invest in the lives of others and took to heart his philosophy of education that everyone has a right to learn. He lived every day of his life by his faith in God and gladly shared that faith with his family. Prior to his educational career, Mr. Collins was an ordained Southern Baptist minister who pastored small churches in Louisiana. In recent years, Mr. Collins known as “Lee” to his friends, enjoyed spending many days with them on the golf course. He enjoyed a good conversation and a good golf game. Mr. Collins’ love for his family will continue to give them comfort, strength, and life-long happy memories.

Services will be conducted by Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville, Ark. There will be a graveside service Tuesday, July 12th, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Cemetery on Highway 27 officiated by Mr. Collins’ grandson, Aaron Cooley. After the graveside service, family and friends may gather at the home of Tracey and Lyle Cooley.

Visitation will be Monday July 11th from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Latimer Funeral Home in Nashville, Ark.
