Vernon G. Golden, age 85, of Langley, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2016. He was born on June 10, 1931 in Langley, the son of Enoch Henry Golden and Dovie Winford Whisenhunt Golden. On July 27, 1954, he was married to LaVanda Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Warren Golden and Victor Golden; and one sister, Edith Mitchell. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He loved hunting, fishing and working in his garden. He is survived by his wife, LaVanda Golden of Langley; six children and their spouses, James and Arlene Golden of Langley, Elaine and Gary Brinkley of Benton, Kathy and Benny Dezell of Hot Springs, Shawna and David Writer of Berryville, Kelly and Sissy Golden of Falls Chapel and Shelly Boone of Heber Springs; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Enoch Golden, Jr. of Athens and Tom Golden of Hot Springs; three sisters, June Bailey, Alice Coppess and Annette Kilmer, all of San Diego, California; and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2016, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Jared Moore and Kevin Smead officiating. Interment was in the Langley Hall Cemetery. Pallbearers were Terry Brinkley, Michael Golden, Tim Brinkley, Jeremy Golden, Devin Golden and Dustin Golden. Honorary pallbearers were Andrew Boone, Austin Boone, Billy Wayne Funderburk, Lee Roy Arivett and Bob Morphew. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
